Individuals who are metabolically healthy obese (BMI > 30) and underweight (BMI < 18.5) are at a higher risk of coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and heart failure compared to metabolically healthy normal weight (more than 18 but less than 25) individuals, according to the largest study to date comparing weight and metabolic status to cardiovascular risk, published September 11, 2017 in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
